World Tourism Forum’s Official Visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The president of World Tourism Forum, Bulut Bağcı, visited H.E. Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at his office to plan further development of tıurism strategies in the country. After the meeting, Bulut Bağcı and H.E Tshisekedi  announced a new tourism development plan is on its way for the period between 2020 and 2021. The main goal is to boost international tourism as well as foreign investment to the country. The strategy will be coordinated by World Tourism Forum on all levels in cooperation with the national govenment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to the president, through the DRC tourism development plan new jobs will be created by 2020, with a direct investment of billions of USD.

Mr. Bağcı said that during the 2020/21 period, there will be an increase of passengers in international tourism. “The good news is that in the first quarter of next year there will be an improvement regarding the tourists from all around the World. said Mr. Bağcı noting that different countries will lead the list of tourist nationalities for outbound tourism.

The aim of the new tourism development plan 2020/21, is to position Democratic Republic of the Congo as an important tourism player.

According to H.E. Félix Tshisekedi, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the plan confirms that the industry is still part of the strategic government policy for the development of the regional economies and job creation. “It is a sign of our conviction about the direction of our efforts over the next years – to what end and by what means we will try to achieve the goals that will be our working vision.”

The President linked the announcement of the DCR tourism development plan to the main goal set by his government – zero poverty. According to him, tourism is an opportunity for further development of the economy.
